Four KBS researchers made presentations at the MidAmerica GIS Consortium (MAGIC) Symposium April 18-22 in Kansas City. Presentations were as follows:
Kevin Dobbs--Evaluation of NED Elevation Data and the FLDPLN Model for Inundation Extent
Jude Kastens--Mapping Potential Flood Extents in Eastern Kansas
Dana Peterson--The Kansas Land Use/Land Cover Mapping Initiative
Brad Williams--Assessing Ecological Differences among Hydrogeomorphically Distinct Patches within the Kansas River Watershed

Mike Houts was an invited speaker at the North American Wildlife and Natural Resource Conference March 22-27 in Milwaukee, WI, where he delivered a presentation on the Natural Resource Planner in a special session, "What Does Green Really Mean?" The session explored the effects of current and future green energy projects on fish and wildlife habitat and identified strategies to mitigate or minimize those effects.

October 30, 2009 in Climate change, Ecological forecasting, Land cover, Presentations, Research, Satellite imagery
A number of KARS and KBS researchers made presentations at the 2009 Kansas Statewide EPSCoR Conference in Manhattan, KS, in October. The purpose of the conference was to provide information about recent EPSCoR research and its importance to Kansans as well as to provide opportunities for research collaboration.
KARS/KBS presenters included:
Josh Campbell--"Building a first-generation cyberinfrastructure to support ecological forecasting." Download pdf
Brian O'Neill--"Ecological responses to hydrogeomorphic fluctuations in a sand bed prairie river: river complexity, habitat availability, and benthic invertebrates." Download pdf
Dana Peterson--"Mapping land use/land cover in the Kansas River Watershed." Download pdf
